Thirty minutes north of downtown Los Angeles, Santa Clarita is home to about 250,000 residents — a number that may sound modest by Brazilian standards, but within the LA metro area represents a sizable city with the structure of a master-planned community.
A city designed from scratch
Unlike neighborhoods that grew organically, Santa Clarita was conceived as a master-planned city: wide, clean streets, plenty of green space and proximity to the region's mountains. According to the real estate agent who covers the area, residents often describe the city as a direct contrast to more visible issues in downtown Los Angeles, such as homelessness.
Outdoor living
The city has about 500 kilometers of hiking trails within its limits — a real draw for anyone seeking quality of life outside an apartment. Local schools are also highly rated, a factor that tends to weigh heavily for families with children.
Real estate market
The market is stable, with a good amount of new construction in the area. Some large national builders are currently offering special financing terms — such as fixed rates below 4% a year or credits of up to $60,000 for buyers to use on renovations in their new home. These terms are specific to each builder and can change at any time — it's worth confirming directly before making any decision.
